I remember my daughter telling us one time, how we were forcing her to speak in English (when we were still in the Philippines), and now we are forcing her to speak in Filipino! Lol!

I agree and how I wish my girls can speak fluently my dialect. Trying to teach them and they can pick up few words and they are still little ones so there’s still time to learn

I do believe that every parent should consider maintaining the native tongue. Teaching child to be fluent in English should not sacrifice his/her root/identity. Besides success is not all about fluency and articulacy. Thanks for sharing this

My kids are American but I teach them my native language My little girl sounds so cute when she speaks and always put a smile on my face. She learned many words and always include that in the sentence so she will not forget. I am also proud that I am Filipino though I am naturalized US citizen but my hearts always remain a Filipino

I think it’s really important to maintain the native tongue and still use it regularly as it’s what defines who we are.
